Returning from a serious leg fracture, Dávid Bereczki won both races at Mettet, completing the 2026 SM Junior European Championship season with ten victories from ten starts and the European Championship silver medal. Despite missing two races, the 15-year-old Hungarian rider remained in contention for the title until the final race of the season.
Dávid Bereczki delivered an outstanding sporting performance to conclude the 2026 season, returning to racing just six weeks after suffering a serious leg fracture. Competing with race number 121, the talented Hungarian picked up exactly where he had left off before his injury at the challenging Mettet circuit in Belgium. By winning both races, he maintained his perfect record, taking victory in every race he entered throughout the season.
Bereczki’s winning streak was interrupted by a serious injury sustained during a preparatory race in August, forcing him to miss the MBH Investment Bank S1GP Hungarian Grand Prix in Visonta in September. As a result, the Hungarian rider was unable to score points in two races. However, his return at the season finale once again demonstrated his exceptional speed. The European Championship title ultimately went to Márk Szabó, competing under the Romanian flag, while Bereczki finished runner-up with ten race victories.
FIGHTING FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP UNTIL THE FINAL RACE
In the opening race at Mettet, Britain’s Edward Darnton made the strongest start, but Bereczki stayed close behind and kept the pressure on his rival throughout the race. His persistence paid off on the final lap when he executed a successful overtake to take the lead and secure his ninth race victory of the season. The result reduced his deficit to championship leader Márk Szabó to just 11 points, keeping his title hopes alive.
In Sunday’s second race, Bereczki took the lead straight from the start and gradually pulled away from his pursuers. The Hungarian rider completed the weekend with another commanding victory, while Szabó’s fourth-place finish proved sufficient to secure the European Championship title.
The rivalry between the two riders was reflected in their race-winning records: Bereczki claimed ten victories compared to Szabó’s two. The Hungarian talent therefore finished the championship with a 100% winning record, with only his injury and enforced absence preventing him from scoring points at every round.
